Bioinformatics Devops (m/f/d) – Full time / Mainz

We are looking for a DevOps engineer to support the Computational Medicine unit to further scale up the throughput, quality and reproducibility of its scientific software development. The Computational Medicine unit works in multi-disciplinary research teams to develop innovative software solutions for immunotherapies against cancer and other diseases. The successful candidate will hold a transversal position consulting and supporting diverse projects in its development, automation, quality and reproducibility requirements.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Establishing the use of automation in the software life cycle process across different technological stacks (e.g. Gitlab/GitHub, Python/R, Nextflow/SnakeMake)
  • Oversee the implementation of dependency management systems, containerization and cloud
    approaches
  • Design or improvement of internal quality and reproducibility standards for software development and provide training
  • Collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams of developers, technicians and scientists to design,
    implement, test and maintain computational analysis tools and pipelines for research data from cutting-edge technologies

What you bring:

  • A M.S.c degree in (Bio-)Informatics, Computer Science or comparable study program
  • At least two years of work experience in a DevOps or QA position in software development, scientific computing or related field
  • Proficiency in structured software development (version control, testing, continuous integration systems) is a must
  • Advanced programming experience in Python, experience with R is a plus
  • Familiarity with dependency management systems (pip, conda, renv), containerization (docker, singularity) and big data tools (e.g. Dask, Spark, Arrow)
  • Experience with linux-based compute clusters, job schedulers, and workflow languages
