TRON gGmbH – Translational Oncology at the Medical Center of the University Mainz – is a growing biopharmaceutical non-profit organization with the goal to develop highly innovative technologies to address medical needs in the field of cancer diagnostics and therapeutics. TRON was founded in 2010 and is located in Mainz, Germany. TRON works in close cooperation with universities and clinics as well as with regional, national and international research institutions and companies in the pharmaceutical industry.
The TRON team of scientists has a proven track record in renowned journals and has also published a series of its findings in Nature for the last three years running (2017, 2016, 2015).

TRON is currently expanding its multidisciplinary Bioinformatics Unit with exceptional experience in the development of innovative solutions for cancer immunotherapies.


  • Design, implementation and application of our next generation NGS data analysis platforms
  • Contribution to/support of the development of robust processes for immediate use in innovative clinical studies in the field of cancer immunotherapy
  • Analyze and interpretation of DNA and RNA data from TRON’s high throughput profiling platforms, including Illumina’s NovaSeq, HiSeq and MiSeq
  • Use of big data (TCGA, ICGC, GTEx) to evaluate internal and third party software pipelines
  • Design and analyze validation experiments
  • Upkeep of tight interactions with genomics and molecular biology teams


  • Master level degree in bioinformatics or any related field
  • Demonstrable proficiency in analyzing large cancer ‘omic’ datasets
  • Experience with NGS data analysis (e.g., bwa, GATK, Picard tools, STAR, sailfish)
  • Programming experience, preferably in R and Python and/or MATLAB
  • Know-how in working within a Linux HPC environment, including usage of job schedulers and shell scripting
  • Knowledge of medical, therapeutic, and biological human cancer processes
  • Excellent data visualization skills
